Are you in an area that requires flood insurance or windstorm insurance? You will want to get all of your insurance quotes at the same time.
If you are in a windstorm area, check to see if there are discounts available based on the type of construction or age of house or other criteria. Check this link for basic Texas HOI info. Hopefully someone from Texas can jump in on this thread and give you some specific details about shopping for homeowners insurance in your state.

Is there a website to find a good insurance broker in GA. I google and seem to only find agents not brokers. I also need to find insurance and submit to my LO. No rush though.
Here is an insurance broker for GA, I don't have experience with them but it is worth checking out
Thank you I will check it out!
I'm in the process of getting a quote for home insurance also. I got a quote with GEICO also ($600 a year). GEICO does not issue the policy, they have partner companies and it depends on the partner company in your area (mine was Homeowners of America).
There are a lot of factors that go into getting the homeowners quote.
1. Price of home
2. What homeowner partner insurance company is in your area.
3. What amenities you will have in your home?
4. Will you have a dog?
5. Do you live in a HOA community?
6. Will you be bundling your auto policy with the homeowner policy?
7. Will you have an active security system?

^^^This is true. Other factors include size of living area, size of garages and porch type areas, outbuildings if any, how many corners (something to do with rebuilding costs). In my area we have windstorm considerations too which require very specific windstorm mitigation inspections for all properties before a quote can be issued (9 page report with photos to the insurance company). Plus if the structure is 30 years old or older a 4 point inspection is required along with the wind mitigation inspection.
Not all areas are as strict as Florida, but Texas has implemented tougher criteria and I wouldn't be surprised if other coastal states recently hit by severe storms don't also have additional requirements
It is a good idea to check your states insurance requirements before you start getting quotes so you know what to ask for...not all insurance agencies are the same.
