My wife and I recently sold our house and are preparing to apply for a mortgage. We're currently planning to apply at 2 local credit unions, a local lender, and an online lender.
Any recommendations on an online lender or broker? I'm considering Better.com, but given the recent news, a few mixed reviews, and an experience I read in this forum, I'm a bit hesitant about dealing with this company.
TBH I just picked a lender off Zillow the last time I needed a random check on the other lenders... then again I wound up going with them because frankly their mortgage was far better though the process was more awkward than it arguably should have been I don't know that anyone that is doing a purchase mortgage really has a fantastic experience when looked at dispassionately.
Online recommendations are hit or miss just given how Internet reviews work (the majority with good experiences don't review them), I would not go to Better though personally with their recent issues... I would suggest that no companies are good to their employees objectively but that was not right.

Yeah, I probably should trust my gut and pass them up on this one. If I ended up going with Better.com and things became difficult while dealing with them, that would frustrate me to no end.
Appreciate the response.
I agree that Better's CEO was wrong in how he handled the situation with his employees. Unfortunately, I was too far in to my loan process or I would not have chosen them either. Having said that, the process was very easy and manageable. They provide with a a number of tasks requiring a response or upload of documents. The list of tasks changes as you move through the process until the final task of review final closing documents is complete.

I used LoanDepot for my mortgage and the process was smooth, fast and efficient. I have no complaints about how it went and had a wonderful broker. As for Better: a snowball would freeze in hell before I would ever use this company. While every company has to make business decisions what this CEO did was just plain disgusting. My opinion is that if he was able to treat those 900 people that badly how poorly does he treat his customers when there is a problem? I would not want to find out.

It wasn't for us. Not even close to being the best rate. We eventually went with a small local bank at an incredible 2.5% rate for 30-years. Best part was they service the mortgage
