I applied for a mortgage yesterday and today I received an alert that a hard inquiry hit my credit report. Is my applying for a mortgage a result of that?
Mortgage applications always result in hard inquiries. It is very possible that hard inquiries were made at all 3 credit bureaus.
If properly coded as a mortgage inquiry, this will not have an effect on your score for 30 days. This allows you to do some rate shopping. The inquiries will be seen by lenders who pull your credit report in the future, but they should be able to tell what they're for.
