10% cash back discount!

I know for many, this is a big duh! But I'll mention it anyway. I went to the grocery, it was kroger, but they're mostly all the same. Some of the stuff I got was on sale with a Kroger plus card. Some, had digital coupons too. Bill came to $95. I went right to the service counter and got a $10 refund for the overcharges. I seldom go to any grocery where they don't overcharge for something. That's on top of the 3% from bce. Pay attention to the prices.

Failure to ring up or properly adjust down to the correct price at the register is my guess, where the correct price is defined as the lowest price of what is marked, advertised, or on signage.    If that type of overcharge happens in Massachusetts they have to give you the item for free if the correct price is under $10, if over $10 they have to take $10 off the correct price.

Re: 10% cash back discount!

You got it. Sometimes it's multiple sale prices. Regular price, $3.99, on sale with plus card, $2.99, with digital coupon, 4 for $10. Receipt shows $1 off, I paid $2.99 each, looks good, except I want the 4 for $10.

I'm probably unusual, over the years, I've trained myself to keep a running total when I'm shopping alone. I know the total to the nearest dollar, it's not that hard.

When I lived in Missouri, we had the free deal. My children used to joke, "let's go to the store with dad and see what they're giving away" . I'd check out, notice which sale items weren't ringing up right, send whoever came with me back to get more of those item. They'd check out and meet me at the service counter to get them free.

@FicoMike0 The offer wasn't for Lay's potato chips was it?  Sounds strangely like what I had happen a few weeks ago.  Digital coupons credit was issued after I got home as I did not notice at the time and knew I could sort it out from the comfort of my own couch!

Re: 10% cash back discount!

No, it wasn't chips. Maybe Marie calender frozen dinners. I may be more sensitive than some, I don't shop with a list. I may have one or two things I want, say, milk and sherbert. Otherwise I just look at what's on sale that I will use. Hamburger, $1.99/lb? Sure, we' ll use that. ny strip steaks $7.99/ lb? We're having steak this week, what a nice suprise, I'll take 15 lbs. We have a freezer.

So, I find it worth making sure I get the sale price.

I know it wasn't chips, because I was in an aldis a few weeks ago and I noticed they had some odd flavors of chips for $.25 a 8 oz bag. My dw was waiting on the car ( she's too good to shop there), when I got back, I handed her a bag and asked "do you think we'll eat these?" She said if we didnt, the teenager grandchildren would inhale them. I said good, I bought three cases.

Re: 10% cash back discount!

Since we're on the topic of grocery stores. My area's dominant grocer had a sale on Bubly sparkling waters that ran for weeks on end.  Of the 5 stores I'd been to while they were on sale, initially none had the sale price loaded despite having signs all over with the $4.98 sale price.  All of the s Iocations I frequent except one fixed the issue, but the one that's most convenient for my lunch breaks would not even attempt get the sale price loaded, while keeping that same sale price visible on all tages and started getting super pissy with me about correcting it.  I had to bite my tongue hard not to cuss out the customer service manger who wouldn't stop chastising me for asking them to give me the advertised price each time I bought more.

Re: 10% cash back discount!

Sorry to hear that. They never give me any guff. Back when I lived in misery, I mentioned the free overcharge item to one of my daughter's friends. They were law school friends and he'd gone to work for the Atty generals office. He told me that the particular chain was required to do that by a consent decree. His office had charged them with fraud.

He explained it this way. You advertise a $2 item for $1. The first day, you're still charging $2. That's a mistake. 5 days later, you're still advertising $1 and charging $2 and there are 100 witness es testifying they brought it to your attention. Many have the receipt showing you corrected the error. he said at that point, it's not a mistake anymore, it's deliberate fraud. They were offered a "we didn't do it and promise we won't do it again" deal, or go to trial they were reminded that fraud can involve jail time. They took the deal.

Re: 10% cash back discount!

Nothing's wrong with aldi, they sold me chips for $.25! They're my go to when I need the basics. Prices are good, you can get in and out quick. I like their cousin trader Joe for the quick in and out too.
