I have AmEx credit cards as well as AmEx checking and savings accounts. AmEx let me add my Fidelity CMA to my credit cards so I can make payments from Fidelity, but when I try to link my Fidelity CMA to my checking account, it give me this error:
We're unable to add your UMB Bank National Association to the following accounts: American Express Rewards Checking.
Anyone else have this issue? I've successfully linked my Fidelity CMA to all my other banks.

my account is added, my first thought is a name mismatch between fidelity and amex?

My Fidelity CMA does show up like this as UMB for my credit cards, just not checking.

@Varsity_Lu @I presume you were trying to link the accounts with a theirs party program that has you log in into your bank account you are trying to connect. Those programs are not perfect. There should be an alternative method where give your routine number and account number and two small deposits are sent and you verify the deposit amounts.

Actually, no. I don't use those "give us your login credentials to verify" services. I entered the routing number and my account number and was willing to wait for the 2 micro deposits. I can get all the way to where AmEx asks me to send the verification deposits and then when I push the Link button I get the error.

@Varsity_Lu @When I have done process with banks and credit unions for me it is a three step process. For example if I wanted to link Langley with Ally Bank i would add Alley Bamk to my external account list with account number and routing number. Step 2 check the Ally Bank account for the 2 Micro Deposits once received Step 3 verify the 2 micro deposits on Langley FCUAnd the account is linked. All that said I am not sure where in the process clicking link is? Please clarify

It's just the last step. Not sure if the button says link or continue or submit, but it's after I've entered all the numbers. I've successfully added checking accounts from my local bank, Huntington, and Capital One to my AmEx checking account. It just fails with Fidelity. I'll probably have to end up getting in touch with customer service.

If it's a brand new Amex checking, you have to wait around a week or so before it'll let you link Fidelity CMA to the checking account. The reason is a long verification explanation, but I ran into it as well. A week later it was all good. I added it via the routing/account# method as well, since Fidelity CMA didn't get along with their linking service, possibly since I have some security measures activated on mine.

Both accounts were opened in 2024. Still baffled.

So, I contacted AmEx and they say that my request to link my checking account is being denied/blocked by Fidelity. AmEx can see the request has been submitted several times, but it keeps being denied. Is there a setting in Fidelity that I need to change? I have never contacted Fidelity customer service and I don't see a chat feature. Do I just have to call them? I hate talking on the phone.
