Re: Capital one 360 checking

@Househunter121 Capital One as well other banks will verify you  no matter if you open the account in person or on line.  Which may include a credit pull notr sure if it will be a hard pull or soft pull. Hard pull is for new credit inquires which this is not. If you want to be sure what type of credit pull it will be call Capital One.

Re: Capital one 360 checking

No bank will open a checking account without verifying you. Capital One is soft pull for checking.

Re: Capital one 360 checking

Hi @Househunter121

Welcome to myFICO.

I like that I get paid on Wednesday instead of Friday thru CapOne.

When are you planning on house shopping?

You may want to ask in the Mortgage section whether it's advisable to open a new checking account if you are close to home buying....

Re: Capital one 360 checking

They have to collect that info as part of the "know your customer" regulations to protect against money laundering. As someone already noted, it's a soft pull but they may also be verifying other sources of information besides your credit report. I was planning on opening a 360 Checking a few weeks ago and after saying "verifying your information" it pre-populated with someone else's information and wouldn't let me change it (similar name, but different state/address, occupation, and income). Upsetting at first, but it the customer service and fraud groups were eventually able to straighten it out. Feels better that they're checking against all the info they have available even if an occasional mistake can happen.

Without knowing more (like where that appears and at what stage it appears during the creation of the account), that looks like it could be "boilerplate" language that they put on all account applications, whether it applies or not. (Note the key word "may" in the first sentence - when it comes to checking accounts, "may" essentially means "never.")

Capital One does not pull credit reports for bank accounts. FWIW, I have multiple savings accounts with them, as well as a checking account that I plan to leave open forever. The only reason why they're not my primary bank is because they don't have convenient physical locations. Otherwise, I like them.
