Re: Credit Union Membership Spree

@M_Smart007 Is Affinity CU just a Chex check and no HP?

Also, do we need to be some sort of a member to join?

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous , Yes Chex and NO CB HP. (they probably "SP" your credit somewhere, so when I apply, I have all 3 unlocked)

"Via this application, Affinity will verify credit (where applicable), identity and account history using third parties such as ChexSystems."

Also I forget what sort of outside entity I joined, ( if any) I cannot keep track anymoreSmiley LOL

The overall process to join was super easy, and I even got a call from a very nice employee of the CU ..

asking if everything was fine ..and to let me know that they are there for me.

Are you more likely to receive prequal offers from CUs if you're a member? YES !  (some can be "SP" approvals)

Or is there some other benefit to being a member with lots of CUs? Some pay better interest on Checking / Savings   .. Also if you are "rate" shopping for House, Car, Personal / HELOC loans or lines of credit.

Side note, I'm not sure how many CUs I could get approved for as I keep getting declined for a Discover checking account because of my ChexSystems score, which is currently 581. I don't know what they look at score wise? / probably mainly for anything derogatory or too many inquiries. (I have absolutely no idea what my ChexSystems score is)

@Anonymous, I hope the info in bold blue answers your questions?

Yes, if you don't qualify through work or family relationship there's an affiliated organization that you pay $5 to join, name is something like NJ Education Coalition.  Affinity will handle collecting that $5 and securing that membership as part of the CU membership application process.

That was my experience. I also wanted to share their $150 bonus offer with you guys. It's for using their cashback debit card. https://www.affinityfcu.com/banking/checking/bonus150.aspx

Of course, I only signed up to see about preapproval offers. None yet LOL.

Yes, it definitely does. Thank you very much!

I hadn't considered that being a member of various credit unions could be valuable when it comes time to find an auto loan or a mortgage, but that makes a lot of sense.

When I applied for Affinity, it was a ChexSystem inquiry but no HPs on my credit.

😮😮😮

Well, you're the perfect person to ask this. I noticed when I accessed my Affinity acct that they use what seems to be a very popular portal for CU. They happen to have one of the nicest versions, though. With CU that use these portals like Affinity's, do you ever have issues logging in? Typically, I enter my login info and it takes me to yet another login screen that says that they're having tech issues. And, sometimes, it'll swear that I'm using a new device and send me a security code, even when I just logged in from the same computer minutes earlier.

I use brave browser and that happens all the time with most of my CU's log in's. Firefox does not do this once it is registered i can log directly into accounts on first try.
