I say this in my sig, but US banking sucks just because it's so slow. There's no technological reason for fund transfers to take days. There are more than enough ways for banks to do secure handshakes, validate funds availability, and complete transfers in 5 seconds. If it weren't possible, credit card networks wouldn't have been able to exist for these past what, 3 decades plus? Banks just choose to screw customers for the sake of "security", which is valid but actually mostly mitigable. These delays probably cost regular consumers and businesses billions of dollars a week on lost productivity while banks make millions on expedite fees, overdrafts, and NSF penalties.
But enough ranting... Sorry if I sound pissed (I am).
So far my DCU experience is exceptional because they put themselves at risk to provide immediate check deposits via mobile banking, far before they are given confirmation by my other bank. The app OCRs the handwriting on my check, I press deposit, and a few minutes later my money's available to transfer out, make payments, etc. (even at 3AM)
They also have a free P2P function that transfers funds to my other bank accounts in 1 business day instead of 3-5, or instantly to my Paypal Wallet where I can again transfer to my bank account in 1 business day.
So... kudos to DCU for doing whatever they can to make deposits and fund transfers quick and painless. I also appreciate the 5.12% APY for share savings, which is pretty much a no-risk $50/yr.
Does your bank or CU do something similar, like trust you? I'd like to know so I could bank with them (sooner or later). Thanks!!

Starting Scores: No Scores (03/2018)USAA is every bit as awesome as this in the banking category. Instant funds transfer into your account. No fee cash advance off your credit card instantly available in your account. Instant deposit of checks via their app. I have had nearly evry bank on the planet, and USAA continues to impress me. They would be the last bank I would want to lose.
And I agree, DCU is pretty awesome as well. I also have them... :-}
USAA's $15 ATM reimbursement sounds awesome as well. That'll totally make things easier to bank with them. It also looks like they have a forum where CSRs actively try to solve complaints? That's just wow. I'm impressed!
Do you remember if they did a Chex/other CRA pull?

Starting Scores: No Scores (03/2018)My wife and I maintain 5 basic checking accounts - 3 credit unions and two banks. Our primary checking accounts are DCU and Capital One (used to be Chevy Chase Bank before Cap-1 bought CC). Cap-1 has a lot of local branches and ATM's everywhere I get a small amount of interest on my checking account every month (very small) but no fees on the checking account and generally instant access to deposits (they might hold 50% of a paper check for 24 hours, but almost all of my deposits are either cash or direct deposits.
DCU is great, everything you said except the interbank transfers. 1 day = $10 fee, 3 business days are free. Then again most banks (at least the ones I use including CU's) offer no fee no hold scanned or image check deposits using your phone or email portal and you can always use this option by writing DCU a check from Capital One (image deposit) or NFCU to Capital One, etc if you want to beat the interbank transfer.
Financial institutions including Credit Unions do make a lot of money on fees, but they also make money on "overnight funds" including taking 24-48 hours to credit your credit card payment. I understand hating $39 NSF fees and $5 to use an actual teller or $4.99 to use an out of network ATM, but most of us want our services to be either free or low cost and as long as the bank is healthy we benefit not being charged $15 a month for our checking accounts etc.
I do agree that Credit Unions offer as good if not better service with lower fees - I also can't believe I'm defending Cap-1 ![]()
Haha, yeah I didn't think CapOne would take risks for customer convenience, but I guess they do!
Regarding DCU, CashEdge has a fee but PeoplePay doesn't, and you can send to your other bank regardless of PeoplePay support there. It's how I get around new member restrictions at MACU and PenFed (transfer in with PeoplePay, transfer out with Paypal).
First Hawaiian Bank and Discover Bank don't make funds available till next-day, not sure about MACU and PenFed as I'm still on probation.
P.S. I applied for USAA checking but didn't realize they stopped taking non-military customers. Got denied with no hard feelings. ![]()

Starting Scores: No Scores (03/2018)I have a primary savings with DCU. Seems like it would be a good bank.
I have used Fidelity for many years, online only. Had a great experience with them. Only issue I had was combing my day to day funds with longer term funds. I neglected my long term. Since moving my living expense accounts away from my savings/investing and having to make a point to transfer money to savings, I have been saving more consistently and larger amounts.

I really like my CU (Golden 1 CU in California) for the exact reasons you stated. I get near instant access to photo deposits, and get my payroll DD funds available a full day early. I can't remember the last time I had a fee for anything. When I went through my BK I never heard a peep from them, they called to ask if I was reaffirming my auto loan (which I did) but never even sent formal paperwork for it. When I was in financial straits prior to my BK, they courtesy payed more than a few checks, and even waived the fee a couple times.
My 3% cash back Visa rewards are auto deposited into my savings every month. Rates are better than any of the local banks. I actually do feel like they trust me. I never hear from them marketing-wise, they are just there when I need them with no hassle. Nice ![]()
Man, that sounds pretty much perfect! I can only hope the places I bank with decide to help me out when every little bit counts.

Starting Scores: No Scores (03/2018)I first joined DCU several years ago as it was free membership and benefits I liked (ATM reimbursement, ATM access overseas, and direct deposit gets credited a day earlier than normal). They haven't given me a reason to shop around for another bank/CU, so here I stay. Good to hear others are having similar experiences.
The 5% interest on the first $1,000 is nice, but their rates stink on any amount over that so it's not at all practical as a savings account. I just keep $1,000 in it and move the excess to another savings account.
Mortgage rates are not bad. Not great, but not bad. I did go through pre-qualification with them and it was painless enough. Similar can be said for their auto rates.
I've been with DCU for going on 4 years and have nothing bad to say about them. I have 2 car loans, one at 1.49% 60 months and one at 1.99% for 65 months - painless process getting approved although they do send YOU a check rather than pay the dealer directly. I'm not real happy with the "antique" FICO version they use mainly because my scores are lower with that version, but it hasn't stopped me from getting their best loan rates and a $15k CL Visa.
Last year I also joined NFCU and although their auto loan rates are a little higher especially for longer loans, they too are great. I should note I have an NFCU branch maybe a mile from me and DCU is just by phone or online.
