Debit Card Fraud

Tonight has been a bad night for me. My DH discovered his debit card from his credit union account has been used fraudulently.

We are currently in El Paso, TX and it was used for $204.95 in Chattanooga, TN

We called the number on the back and started a fraud case. Hopefully they will investigate and replace his money. We also found out that the culprit tried to use it for an additional $219.13 but the fraud dept caught it and rejected it. Both was a purchase from CVS pharmacy!

I hope they actually find and prosecute the thief.

Re: Debit Card Fraud

Sorry to hear about DH's card being compromised. Hopefully his CU will refund the money to his bank account promptly.

Highly doubt they'll go after the fraudster though; you could try investigating it on your own but fraud is rampant since no one bothers to follow up on it.

Re: Debit Card Fraud

Someone made a counterfeit card and used my PNC debit in canada as well. PNC caught on and denied 5 other charges. Sadly I can't even dispute it until its posted and its still pending.

Re: Debit Card Fraud

usually you have to put in a pin when making purchases with a debit card

try to ask your husband where he used the card and figure out where the card got compromised at

unfortunately you might be on the hook for the charges

thats why i try to use a CC as often as possible

banks will bend over backwards on CC fraud but give you a hard time on DC fraud

Re: Debit Card Fraud

His money was reimbursed.
The debit card was used without the pin as a credit transaction
