Re: Digital Wallet - Who uses it?

To add to what @iced already said for me security of my devices particularly my phone was a necessity for work purposes because of the data I deal with so the initial annoyance of pins and short screen timeouts I just got used to it. Now with the fingerprint sensor in the S10 models I don't want to go back. Would be nice for them to bring back facial recognition as well like with Apple devices but the fingerprint scanner after a rough start I'm happy with. A quick two seconds to unlock a phone is minor incovenience compared to an unsecured cellphone.

No digital wallet for me. I like technology, but I expect it to make things faster & easier.

FTR, I do have a PIN on my phone and I agree with the others about security, but I am outlier like you. I still rock a 2012 Motorola Droid 4 with Jellybean 4.1.2 that does not support ANY type of banking app, etc. I literally mostly text, some phone calls, and google maps. Not even emails go to my phone since my work emails "should only be read on a secure work computer". If someone stole my phone and figured out my PIN, I guess they could crank call everyone in my contacts and look at photos of my dogs and wife. All with their clothes on. Smiley Happy

But all my peers seem to rave about their Samsung Pay, so if I ever did upgrade my phone, a Samsung would definitely be what I would purchase. But knowing me, I would load up my Samsung pay and still carry all my cards for a while. I am bad at charging my phone and I would be the one that would pull out a dead phone. Also, I am not attached to my phone. It's more of a nuisance for me, especially when I am with my wife. Since she is the only one who texts/calls me, I have been known to leave it in between the seat cushions for days at a time!

Slightly OT, for you guys that love your "tap & go", please, please, please put it away in your wallet right away, or in your pocket, or wherever you store it after taping. I have been involved in some investigations where a customer, after "taping & going", laid their card or wallet onto the reader while they gathered themselves, their groceries, their items, etc. The cashier than started scanning the next customer's items, and guess who got charged? The customer that is still in the way gathering themselves, because their card was still laying on the POS terminal and it created a 2nd tap transaction on their card. Why anyone could lay their card/wallet on there is beyond me, but I have seen the security footage.

One incident involved a person buying $60 worth of goods, but yet he was charged $2560. The $60 guy wasn't "going" after "taping & going" and ended up paying for the guy behind him buying a $2500 couch.

Re: Digital Wallet - Who uses it?

I use Apple Pay here and there. It's been difficult in the past because I constantly need to switch between different Apple IDs from different countries. Every time I sign out of an Apple ID, the wallet and all its cards gets wiped. I understand the reason, but then adding all the cards back every time is just a chore.

Hi SBR. Why would anyone have to switch Apple ID’s when they’re visiting another country? I’m not trying to be rude by any means, I’m just trying to visualize the dilemma you’re having.

No offense taken. I used to live abroad and still maintain bank/credit card accounts with foreign financial institutions. Unfortunately, many of their apps are geo-restricted in terms of which country's app store has them and you can only update when you are signed into that country's app store. For example, Barclaycard has a US-based app for their credit cards like the Uber Visa. But their UK bank has their own Barclays app that is not available on the US app store. This is probably to avoid confusion so if you search for Barclays, you won't get a ton of apps for different countries. Same is true for AmEx. An Apple ID can only be associated with one country, so if you designate an Apple ID as US-based, you'll automatically be directed to the US app store when you sign in. So I maintain multiple Apple IDs based in different countries and as a result, every time I need to update a foreign app, I have to switch Apple IDs to access the foreign app store.

It's not a common problem, but it has prevented me from really embracing Apple Pay.

Re: Digital Wallet - Who uses it?

I love that feature, I have it on the S7 and use it to sign into Chase. Much quicker than entering ID and PW! Although I still forget to use it to sign into the actual phone. lol

I used to be very resistant tro this mobile finance, but then someome told me it's no less secure than the actual Bank/Online. Of course I don't use open WiFi spots with finacial stuff.
