Hi all,
First post but long-time lurker. I have learned a lot from this forum, thank you! I had a weird experience with Discover Loans. I applied online for $3000 to help finish furnish my new apartment and was instantly approved with a soft pull. I was told a check would be in the mail to me but first I had to call up to finalize the details of my loan.
That's where it got weird. I called and spoke to a gentleman who asked the usual security questions (DOB, full address) and then he put me on hold for a short time. He then came back and told me that unfortunately my request was denied and that he was sorry to disappoint me but the reasons would be in the mail. Today I got a letter from Discover which states 'Thank you for your request for a Discover Personal Loan. This letter is to confirm that your request has been cancelled and we have stopped evaluating your request. As a reminder your credit score will not be impacted by your request since we used a soft credit inquiry to check your eligibility.' Then a further line with a contact number in case I have any questions.
The letter left me more confused than the call. Any guesses what happened there or anyone with experience?
Background: I got my first credit card about 4 months ago. So far I have the Discover IT, the Amex Blue Cash Everyday (both $2000 limits) and recently Capital One Platinum ($300 limit). Bill payment dates are on alternate pay periods (bimonthly) between Amex and Discover and I usually PIF or close to and then use again for the cash back. At the time of the call I was pretty close to my discover limit and hadn't paid it down yet. Credit Score about 640 (October), 7 inquiries.
