Re: Garden Club - June 2021

Happy Wednesday! BofA just reported its monthly payment to the bureaus and I got 3 FICOs on each bureau.

Also, the first Chase branch in New Mexico is now open! I went in to get something on my CFF corrected. Everyone there is super friendly. This also means that New Mexicans no longer have to travel to Arizona or El Paso to check for in-branch offers! Smiley Very Happy

Re: Garden Club - June 2021

My portable shortwave radio came in today.. Wonder if ill like it...

Sangean 909x2

Other thing, one of my customers called me and went off on me for something done over a month and a half ago...

He started going off on me on the phone, even after i intentionally request them to proofread and do a once over on it when i post it up.. Then he started blaming his sales on the error ...  Came this close to firing him as a client since this is not the first time this particular person has been needy... all while my rate magically shrunk a bit... I was not having it....  If it had come to my attention sooner, it would have been a simple fix...

Hope my new blinky shiny will make up for the drama..

Just like to say I left the "garden club about a month ago", on June 15, 2021. I was in the Garden for 1 year and 1 month. The previous card I  had was back in April 2020. My FICO score (EX) was 747 after the Amex BCE pull and climbed 29 points to 776 shortly before my current US Bank pull on 5/13/2021. Notably I reduced 2 HP from my credit and 2 HP are not scorable (more than 1 year old).

I'd like to know the secret as well Smiley Tongue  Did you travel via Delorean or...?  Asking for a friend.

Those are nice! Do you plan to use it portable with the built in antenna or an external antenna?  I have been thinking about getting an MLA-30.  It's on my long long list.

It's been a moment since I have popped in here, have been spending my free time over on some ham radio related forums when I haven't been operating using the new antenna.

In gardening and finance news, I am a month away a Gold Spade.  My checking account is looking sad, it is the lowest it has been in over a year.  Savings is still healthy.  My goal is to not transfer anything out of savings just to pad checking, I have the funds to cover all the bills for the month so my check on the 15th should pad checking again to a more comfortable level.  Most of the expenses we had previously budgeted for (Shutters, dining table came in, my radio project).

In life news, work has been fairly busy, the memorial day weekend had a fair amount of excitement, Friday I hit my water line while trenching (811 checks for utilities not private lines, though I was under the impression all my water lines came in on the other side of the house.  I was able to do a repair, I am having some pressure issues, I have done the usual steps and haven't figured it out (I am a rookie) so going to get the plumber out, my guy isn't available until next week but he is reasonable priced.  We have enough pressure to live, and even the shower isn't bad as long as we don't run too much else during the shower.

I was able to get my mind of the plumbing woes this weekend and operated in a major radio contest, working on my CW skills and had a lot of fun testing out the new antenna.

The next bit of excitement came yesterday when a rat snake came to visit, we aren't in the country but we are pretty close to it, we have the creek behind our house and plenty of field mice (I can hear them out at night).  I knew we would have snakes, but I also have an irrational fear of snakes.  Needless to say this one got my heart pounding, but I was able to move him back to the grass and he slithered away to go eat more rats/mice.

I wear work boots when working in the yard, though it isn't this guy that scares me, it is the potential for water moccasins, rattle snakes or coral snakes to be about.  The non venemous guys I dislike but am less scared.  I have never been bitten by a snake though and don't want to start now.

I left my wook boots on the patio because they were all muddy from the plumbing work, you can bet I will be checking those boots (of course I do that even when they are indoors, I haven't seen any here yet but the apartment had the occasional scorpion.

Happy gardening, I should get back to work, can't believe it is almost 3.

That sucker is big!  I would've thrown whatever was in my hand at it, and ran lol

Re: Garden Club - June 2021

@sxa001

Plan to use it portable but still want an antenna for home use... But i cant put up a tower/outdoor aerial...

But iv heard of the MLA-30 and it might be an option...

Good friend of mine had the original relabled 909 from Radio Shack for years and iv sorta wanted one for awhile... He got the 909x when it came out with the digital recorder add on.. and liked it...  I originally got one of the other Sangean radios from RS and let him kick the tires and i returned it... was the one with the built in timer/casette recorder and it was nothing like the 909.. was on sale at the time, and never bothered to replace it.. because of cost at the time...

But i also ran into some of the known issues and will be sending it back to Sangean for a firmware update...

Been meaning to pick something up for awhile ... just want something that isnt tied to a laptop/tablet ...

SDR sticks are interesting, but theres something said about just having a tuning knob and being self contained

Was pondering the Tecsun PL880 and the 990x as well...

Other story.. I almost bought a Sony ICF-2010 years ago at Nobody Beats the Wiz before they went out of buisness.. same situation... couldnt swing it at the time.  That was a regret.....

Re: Garden Club - June 2021

It's only been one and a half months since my last app. Feels like it should be 6 months. Not that it matters. Only goal at this point is a 3rd Navy card before January. At that point, absolutely 0 apps for 2 years so that my inquiries will be clear, in line with my fully clean file. Only other goal cards I would consider before January is the Schwab platinum or amex Bonvoy, but feel the Bonvoy would be better off 2 years from now. Will probably do some pruning in that time.
