NFCU Question

Ok... I am in the process of transitioning all my banking to NFCU since everyone swears by them. I for one have not had a great experience with them but I am taking the communities advice to "let it grow". I have now been with them 3 months (almost 4). Anyways tonight, I was setting up all my bill pays and credit cards in their system and just poking around at all the different options and offers.  I was also fishing around on the site to see if there was a place to input income but nothing.

Now... When I got this account they gave me a $500 plat card and a $500 cloc (which is why I said I have not had great experience with them so far. These limits PO'd me Smiley Mad )

Anyways I noticed on the site an option for overdraft protection. I clicked on it thinking it would tell me more (but in the back of my mind I was thinking, "isn't that what the cloc is for?"). It looks like when I clicked on it that it considered that a request because it said that there were 2 reasons I was denied. Huh? Denied? I just wanted to read what their protection was like. Instead, it said:

  1. "One or more of your accounts has not been maintained in a satisfactory manner."
  2. "You currently have a checking line of credit".

Well I am wondering what the first reason is all about. It did not say that it was one of 2 reasons BUT it said it was denied because of these 2 reasons.

I use the cloc and credit card religiously to build a relationship with NFCU as advised by all the fine people here. Both are paid down to $0 right now so what does "has not been maintained in a satisfactory manner" actually mean? Anyone else had this come up? I am wondering if this is a warning shot not to ask for any cli’s! LOL! What do the experts think? Thanks!

Re: NFCU Question

Hopefully, the other NFCU experts on this forum can shine some light on this. But they will need more DP's about your relationship with NFCU.

- Does checking account have any overdrafts?
- Does CC have any late payments?
- Does CLOC have any late payments?
- Did you have an NFCU account in your past and overdraft it?

"One or more of your accounts has not been maintained in a satisfactory manner" — leads me to believe something happened with one account presently.

My recommendation is to call NFCU CC department and ask. Then call NFCU CLOC/Loans department and ask as "I believe" they are two separate departments.

Last recommendation, we cannot help you more then a CSR can about your particular status with NFCU.

Re: NFCU Question

I am going to call NFCU as soon as my statement cuts on the 20th.

I have had the account 3 3/4 months.

I have a checking, savings, cloc and plat card.

In that time I have not overdrawn the accounts. I max out the credit card 3 or 4 times a month and pif every week or 2 depending how fast I use it.

I use the cloc once or twice a month and pif every time I make a payment.

This is my first NFCU account. I checked what score they used when they gave me the accounts and it was a 716 from the letter they mailed me.

I agree that NFCU CSR will probably be able to answer my question but was trying here first since I won't be calling until the 20th.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated!

Re: NFCU Question

Ok... This is an update just in case someone else has the same question I did. I know I said I would call after the 20th but it was nagging at me.

I called the CSR at NFCU and got the worst rep ever. Ugh... Usually they have very good customer service but she was horrendous. Anyways... I wanted to know a few things besides why there was the "one of your accounts have not been maintained in a satisfactory manner". I also wanted to know the due date for my CLOC because when online it says there is no due date.

She said there isn't a due date.

I know... I was puzzled too. So I guess I can borrow the CLOC and just never pay it back.

I wanted to know my statement date for my CLOC. She said it is the 20th. I wanted it confirmed that it is the same as my CC and she said "yes".

I ended up just hanging up on her the service was so bad. Just my luck I get that rep today.

FF 6 hours later and it is still nagging me.

I called back! Lol!

This rep said my CLOC is due on the 20th. I asked when the statement date is and she said the 20th. I have no idea if this is true or not. Sounds odd that a due date and statement date would be same day but I am a newbie at this credit game so I am taking her word for it for now.

Now it was time for my most pressing question. One of your accounts have not been maintained in a satisfactory manner!!!

This rep said I overdrew the account by $344!

So here is what I did... I went to the ATM and I think I deposited $400 (can't remember exact amount). I live 45 mins from the NFCU and once I got home I logged on and paid my CC. I think I paid the $500. It said Available balance and showed the cash was available that I had just deposited in my ATM. I made the transfer to pay my CC.

Well this rep said the cash was available but was not "posted" so it overdrew my checking account for a "few" minutes. I asked what do you mean a few minutes? She said as soon as I made the transfer that the deposit was "posted" minutes later. Well... I am still confused but that is what she said. So if anyone ever see's the "one of your accounts have not been maintained in a satisfactory manner" then this might be the issue for you. LOL!

Re: NFCU Question

Lol... I still couldn't accept the answer. I've called back 4 times now and have gotten a different answer each time. Also I just checked my account online and they moved all my funds from savings to checking. No notifications or anything. I sent to SM's hoping to get clarification in writing. Also they claim my CLOC is due on the 20th. Statement cuts on the 20th. And they report it to the bureaus on the 20th. I explained to the csr that my credit reports show that it is being reported on the 1st. He said no it isn't. Well I believe my credit report. Lol!

So I have been reading here on myfico and most members say the cloc reports on the 1st (but csr said it don't). Ive had 1 csr tell me the due date is same day as my cc.

I tell the csr that basically if I go by all their timelines that it will be due on the 17th. Statement on the 20th. And reports to the bureaus on the 1st.

So I can only use the cloc the 2nd to the 16th? That makes no sense. If I can't get real answers from the SM's I sent I will just close it out. Not worth the chance to get a late or overdraft on my credit profile.

Oh yea... The guy told me to be safe to make my cash deposits 4 days before the due dates. Then make the payments 2 days before the due dates. Lol!

Just sounds so ridiculous. And now I have been reading a couple hours on some real nightmares at NFCU like guy's getting their accounts frozen for 40 days. Then closed. Then miraculously opened again with no explanation. I know it's probably rare but it would be just my luck. Lol

Re: NFCU Question

I can say this, I 100% treaded lightly in the first 6 months of membership when I first signed up. Probably really stupid I did but I was not taking any chances.

Re: NFCU Question

I hear ya. I was trying to do the same thing.

I was unaware that the cash deposits even though they show available really isn't available. Lol

From more reading here on myfico I see even more people are having issues with the reporting date of the cloc. Their reporting on the clocs are just nuts to me that they cannot give you a definitve answer. Here is the last message I received from them today:

Thank you for your eMessage Mr. XXXXXX. Navy federal sends electronic transmission to all 4 major credit reporting agencies each month based on your billing cycle and not the activity on the account. The exact reporting date is unavailable.
