NIHFCU, Hancock Whitney approvals

So I was trying to garden when I got a preapproval in the mail from Hancock Whitney Bank.  I have been banking with them for over ten years and they had never sent me any preapprovals before.  I even apped with them a couple of years ago and was denied so I was super surprised when I got the preapproval for a $10,000 personal loan. I wasn't thinking of apping for anything for a while after I had apped for a flagship card from navy fed which was denied.  The only reason I was given (in all caps) was that I had exceeded my credit limit.  I have two other cards with them (I had a third card but cancelled it a few days before I apped. It only had a $2900 limit and the last CLI I received was in April, which I wasn't thinking about when I apped.)

But anyway, I went ahead and apped but It took Hancock bank a full week to get back to me, I even called them and they took my name and phone number and said they would call me. When I didn't hear from them for a couple of days I called a local branch on a
Friday afternoon and they said to call back Monday. After the preapproval from Hancock Whitney I started thinking of how I could consolidate a few things, So then I decided to app for the loan from NIHFCU online. My experience with them was much different.  I didn't get an instant approval but it wasn't a denial either, it was "in review", which I kinda thought was a denial. But then Monday morning they called and asked a few questions. (I asked for a consolidation loan).  They reviewed my credit report but I didn't hardly have any reporting debt. I only had a $1900 remaining penfed loan, $230 remaining navigator CU loan and a few tiny balances on CCs.  So they wanted to know why I wanted $10,000.  So I explained that I had my eye on an exercise bike. They didn't ask for any income/taxes info at that point.  So they said they would let me know of their decision.  When I didn't hear back the next day (actually they had sent me an email but it went to my junk mail, but I didn't know that), I called and talked to a loan officer who said that the 1st rep had recommended me for approval but that they requested IDs and taxes/income documents. So basically they were waiting on me to respond.  Anyway, I got approved!  Then after a lot of back and forth (they wanted a W-2 and all that), I got the loan in my account (after they paid off my two other balances). I then asked if I could get a credit card with the same pull and was approved for $3500 but not for the rewards card that I wanted. The loan officer said I should go ahead and accept this card and product change later. She was great!

So after all that Hancock finally pulled my credit (it was delayed a whole week!) So I went to my local branch and asked for a credit card (since I got hard pulled, might as well get something out of it).  They approved it but for only $700! And..they pulled my credit again!! ugh!! I can't figure out how I was "preapproved" for $10,000, which I know that it's not guaranteed but yet only approved for such a small credit card limit.  Smiley Indifferent  But I went ahead and accepted, I mean, why not?

Btw, days later, the loan department from Hancock Bank finally called back and I told them I was no longer interested.Smiley Frustrated
