Is there a hard pull credit check for membership with Navy Federal? I am not looking for any credit products right now, but have an opportunity to join them for an account.

Yes there will be a hard pull. But it's worth it.
Update: several other posters advise that I'm wrong, and that NFCU no longer uses a hard pull for membership. So if I was wrong, I stand corrected.

@Not true. NFCU doesnt HP for membership anymore, at least for me @January 2018 . I just joined LAST WEEK.
They DO inq EWS ( Early Warninng System ) when you open checking or saving account with them.

For applying credit card, YES they do HP TransUnion. Hope this help.
I joined in October, and saw a pull on EWS and a SOFT pull on Transunion. As usualy, your mileage may vary. I applied only for checking and savings (over the phone).

HPs were standard in the past, but their policy seems to have changed recently. I've read numerous examples lately of SPs for membership. Credit products will still get you a HP though.

Thank you for the response. I welcome all experiences. I think that is why it is sometimes a good thing to ask questions here as policies and experiences can and do change. My interpretation of the answers is that since I am not seeking any credit products, then I may receive just a SP, but if a product requested, then a hard pull.
