I just got in to Navy Federal after a 2 year wait for my Grandfather's service records. I would like to get my friend in (were both in our 40's). I was going sponsor my friend and have him pretend to be a half sibling since obviously we have different last names. I was going to provide him my access number, so I can sponsor him. Would they ever ask for birth certificates if they decided to audit him to verify that we have the same mother? Does anyone know if they go that far when randomly auditing Navy Federal members?
Its never a good idea to lie to get into things. Faking a relationship is very risky. I believe the only way you'd be able to help is if he were your roommate. He'd have to have his ID match your ID's address, also a major utility bill under his name, etc.
I'm not sure, but I've always thought that it's a bad idea to lie to financial institutions even if you might be able to get away with it.
Maybe you could adopt your friend? I wish someone could adopt me for NFCU membership (I'm in my early 40s).
Sponsoring your account will get it audited and then all your funds will be frozen. I would save yourself the potential trouble.

You would be committing fraud. Don't do it.

It's called fraud
My words exactly
"Don't do it"
I got it, thanks for all the replies. I'll tell my friend no.
