Netspend prepaid debit cards

Does anyone have any experience with Netspend debit cards?

I'm most interested in the following questions:
  1. Did they run your ChexSystems, Early Warning Services, or similar? *
  2. Did they require you to send any ID documents via email? **
  3. Have you gotten any promotional offers, e.g. small rewards for some activity like spending or depositing $x? If so, what were they?
  4. What methods have you used to reload the card? If you've reloaded in-store, how does that work?
  5. Are you able to schedule outgoing transfers (pushes) from this card?
I'm specifically interested in the H-E-B version. Discussion here on DoC. I see some discussion here but a lot of it is older.

*My Chex and EWS are clean, in case you are wondering. I just don't like unnecessary inquiries as they may mess up my future banking applications.
**I have seen some stories about this and other fairly shoddy security practices, but they are from a long time ago and I'm not sure whether they were the norm.

Re: Netspend prepaid debit cards

I know it's a bit late for a reply but I have experience with almost every Netspend card as well as a few other ones. They are really considered prepaid cards, not debit cards unless you count the Ace Flare as an upgrade.

1.) No, they do not run any kind of banking consumer reporting database or credit.

2.) They only require them in case there's suspected fraud and they can't resolve it any other way or they have trouble verifying your account.

3.) Yes, I believe once or twice I got like a $10 credit for using their mobile check deposit. There are also promotional offers to upgrade to the Ace Flare account from Ace Elite and other Netspend accounts to the monthly fee version but I didn't need that. There are also some referral offers like when a friend or family member orders a new card and loads it with $40 you could each earn a credit.

4.) I've never reloaded it in the store as they charge a fee to do that so the best way for free to load it is thrugh an ACH transfer from your bank's side. To reload a prepaid card in a store, you would typically present your card at the register, provide the amount of cash you want to add, and the cashier will process the transaction, essentially loading the specified amount onto your prepaid card and then a fee. I think the Walmart Money Card (not Netspend) does it for free at regular Walmart stores.

5.) There are no ways to schedule transfers and you can only push ACH from your bank's side of things. There are debit card transfers but I think they charge a fee to do so so I have never done that.

@IcyCool7227

Is there a way to funds to H-E-B or any Netspend prepaid debit card from a trasnfer from an external debit or prepaid card? For example, I have an external prepaid card with $1500 on it. Could I transfer that $1500 directly to H-E-B or any Netspend prepaid debit by online or through an app?

Just to be clear, I can only pull funds out of H-E-B or any Netspend account by external bank account?

Re: Netspend prepaid debit cards

Hey my primary phone is in the shop for almost two days getting a new charging port put in so if when I get it back I can let you know for sure. But I think you can pull funds out of the account for a $4.95 fee over the counter at a max of $5000 per transaction, and for variable fees up to $325 at an ATM per transaction & $940 per day. It is free to transfer funds via an external bank account. Not sure if it works pulling out funds with PayPal as I never tried that but you may encounter a fee there.

The only way to transfer that $1500 directly would be through a bank transfer as NetSpend isn't compatible with other accounts outside it's family. You can instantly transfer funds between different NetSpend accounts you or anyone owns via Flash Pay for free - you just input the ID number.
