Does anyone know if it is hard pull or soft pull to join State Department Federal Credit Union? I have read in a few threads that is a soft pull to join if you only open a savings account. However, all the threads I have found are several years old.
Has anyone joined in the last several months that can attest that it is still only a soft pull?
Thank you.
When I joined years ago, it was a hard pull. They also used the same pull when I applied for a Visa.
Your best bet to get the correct information is to call SDFCU's customer service department. I think very highly of them and they have also treated me great, even when I was declined for my first Visa app with them

Thanks for the reply. That is a good idea.
I called early this morning and the person I talked to had no idea either way. I called back this afternoon, and the person I spoke to said there would be no hard pull for opening either savings or checking.
Thanks again for your reply.
hawkins thanks for the data points. Seems I read some interesting challenges on them over time. Seeing your results brings home that likely I will let the "sleeping dog lay." ![]()
Fwiw, my SDFCU join was also kinda along these lines, about two years back. Also resulted in no account opened; well technically opened, then closed. Couldn't verify my 50 years of ID I guess. Crazy folks there. My HP falls off in 45 days or so... Never had so much trouble, before or since, joining a credit union.
With a dog like that, no need for a chicken, eh? lol
