Is it just me? Or is Citibank like TORTURE to deal with?
I opened a high-interest savings account a few months ago. Or at least I thought I did. (I also signed up in order to get a sign-up bonus. I was going to use the account anyway, so why not?)
My savings account got pennies in interest, for a not-insignificant sum. That can't be right, right?
So I called support to ask why my account is not getting much interest. She doesn't know and tells me to call back later. I call a week later and am told that I never opened the "high interest" account. So I had to open a new account for that. Okay. (One silver lining is that so far as I have been told, I am eligible for the sign-up bonus, but will have to wait until January to get it. Okay!)
Now I am just trying to transfer more money into the savings account. I am trying to verify an external account. TORTURE. I had to do it manually (where they send two small sums to the 'target' account and you verify the amounts). But I can't find where to actually *verify* the amounts. (I have opened many, many, MANY bank accounts, so this is not a foreign concept for me.) I call Citi support, again, for help. I am put on hold and then the line goes dead. THE END. (It's not the first time I've been disconnected while on hold with Citi.)
I am so sick of this. They are torture. They only offer at this time one-tenth of a percent more interest than AMEX savings (as well as PenFed). Who needs this? Ridiculous. I don't think I'll close my Citi account but everything seems to be ten times more difficult than it is with other banks.
I don't really do the HYSA stuff but people on this forum and DoC have brought forth plenty of superb HYSAs*
*Like 5% APY on up to 1K.. or something like that, which is really good
I think you should look into it
Thanks! I have done some of it. I have DCU's high-interest savings account—I collect checking and savings accounts. I'd be a "churner" if I kept signing up for accounts and then closing them...but I never close them! LOL! I try to use them all, at least to some degree. (I have about three main accounts that I use the most.)
Their CEO is getting canned so hopefully things will improve soon.
It's not just you. The federal government fined them four hundred million dollars this year for, essentially, being bad at being a bank.

Yup my experience as well. I have like $25 remaining in my account and Covid prevents me from actually saving since im always helping my family with my meager paycheck. What i dont like is i cant even transfer to my checking account or at least cant see a way. I probably will close it too just a big headache not needed![]()

Canning the CEO is about three years past due.
Thank you SO MUCH, everyone! Now I know I'm not crazy for being so frustrated with them. I will gradually move my money out of Citi. (I want to cool it until I get my $400 bonus, though...) I was reading some complaints about them online and HOLY COW. No thank you!
I had to call their customer support for a credit card a week or so ago....... I relaize it's a different phone number than the actual banking... but still.. very difficult to understand the rep plus she had an attitude and kept talking over me. Ugh. I'm happy with the Double Cash card but I hope I don't need to speak to these people very much.
I love banking with Schwab. I keep some savings at Ally for interest. Both have never let me down when I've needed to accomplish something (like deposits, transfers, a functional phone app). My local credit union was doing a terrible job with customer support too.. which is why I moved over to Chuck. I'll take the hit in some interest if I can save myself a headache every time I need info.
Nice news about the CEO. I hope Citi improves!

Let's hope Schwab doesn't start cutting back on benefits like every other company does.
