USB (U.S. Bank): New Online Checking Account DP's

Edited - 10/21/20: Added additional DP's on HP/SP

Personal DP's:

*DP's were confirmed by a representative in the Fraud Analyst | Customer Authentication & Fraud Experience - Deposits Department.

  • *As of 10/19/2020, you can fund a USB Checking Account with a CC of up to $250 via Online Application. (the AMEX 3x referral bonus just came in CLUTCH with 4x on $250)
  • *As of 10/29/2020, you must have EX, EQ, TU, and SAGE unfrozen to be approved online. Your application will be withdrawn/declined if SAGE is frozen. I cannot confirm from personal experience if having EX or EQ frozen will indeed cause a withdrawal/decline as I unfroze them both for my initial and secondary application.
  • *You may apply in-branch with EX, EQ, SAGE frozen but, in-branch will pull CHEX and SP TU.
  • As of 10/19/20, USB SP's TU, ARS, and SAGE with unconfirmed SP's on EX and EQ.

My Timeline:

  • 10/12
    • Unfroze EX, EQ, TU and waited about 5/min for the systems to update.
    • Applied for a USB Checking account online with $300 SUB and attempted to fund my account with $25 via CC
    • Immediately after pressing "Submit," I received an email titled "We received your application," and USB did not charge my CC
  • 10/12 - 10/18
    • Every day I called 800-947-1444, which gave "the application is in process."
  • 10/19
    • I received an email from a Fraud Analyst | Customer Authentication & Fraud Experience - Deposits representative stating my application has been withdrawn/declined because one of my reports is frozen. The email details EX, EQ, TU, LifeLock, and SAGE, need to be unlocked/unfrozen.
    • Chatted back and forth with representatives regarding DP's above.
    • Unfroze EX, EQ, TU, and SAGE and waited about 5/min for the systems to update.
    • Re-applied for a USB Checking account online with $300 SUB and attempted to fund my account with $250 via CC.
    • Instant approval and CC Charge of $250.
    • I called the USB Application Status Department - 800-444-1244 to confirm my $300 SUB would be granted due to my initial application withdrawal.
    • Confirmed this shouldn't be an issue.
    • HUCA
    • Confirmed this shouldn't be an issue and notated the account.

Hopefully, this helps someone!

Now to wait for 6+/months in the garden for the USB Altitude GO card. Didn't wait, you can find approval DP's here.

Re: USB (U.S. Bank): New Online Checking Account DP's

Thanks for the DPs. Very helpful. Is $25 the minimum funding?

Also, how long is the SUB good for?

Yes, $25 is min. Funding amount and Nov. 2nd $300 SUB expires.

Re: USB (U.S. Bank): New Online Checking Account DP's

Thanks for the detailed report!

I'm currently stuck where you were from 10/12 to 10/18. Haven't unfrozen anything yet because until your post, I had no indication that was necessary. I'm not willing to risk an HP, so I hate unfreezing anything.

The CSR I talked to today gave me the name and direct phone number of the person who supposedly has my app on his desk, but he doesn't answer the phone and there's no way to leave him a message. So far I'm not receiving the good customer service people typically report.

Not sure this hassle is worth three hundred taxable dollars. I might let this app die on the vine.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I have about a week and a half to try and go for it. The problem for me is the $2k DD setup. I could change my regular job DD over to them for the SUB, but it's just a hassle since all of my payments come out of my current bank (RBFCU).

Edit - 10/21/20 1532hrs PST: USB SP for Checking Accounts, please see the above original post for more details.

I would still give USB a shot. I also felt like the Customer Service was lacking during my 10/12 - 10/18 wait and just let the application die. The timelines for approving a manual checking account to me are astonishing, but after I finally got through to someone, it has been smooth sailing. I have called a couple more times for stupid stuff and advice on credit card applications with no issues.

If you don't have a prior relationship with USB and have EX, EQ, TU, and SAGE frozen, then I would bet it's going to be withdrawn/declined. I could be 100% wrong, but from the email conversation I had with the Fraud Analyst | Customer Authentication & Fraud Experience - Deposits Department, it's because of verification. I would wait for that email from the department I stated and then unfreeze and re-apply.

It was a blessing in disguise because I got to fund my checking account with $250 on my AMEX Gold card earning 4x MR points lol.

This might be against the myFICO T&C, and if so, please delete it!

My two Schwab Checking account ACH transfers counted as DD. I do not see your bank as verified good, but always worth a try! Here is the DocOfCredit link: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/knowledge-base/list-methods-banks-count-direct-deposits/#US_Bank
