Weird things with new Wells Fargo checking account

My wife and I have banked with Bank of America since we got married a couple years ago. I've been with BofA longer than that on my own. Well, for some reason BofA decides it's going to pull out of my town, and the next closest branch is about two hours away. So my wife and I decided to look into Wells Fargo to transfer to since it's nationwide as well. So we applied for the Everyday Checking Account online, and we were given a counter offer of the Opportunity Checking Account - an account with more limitations than we were willing to accept. So we declined and started thinking of other options.

Well, the next day I receive an email from Wells Fargo congratulating me that our application for Everyday Checking was approved and we would receive our account info in the mail within 5 days. I'd never known Wells Fargo to change their minds (especially on their own). Anyone else experience this?

Other strange things have happened - like when we tried to enroll our account for online banking, the online system was not recognizing mine or my wife's SSN - we each had to call into Wells Fargo customer support to have them override the system and they had to manually link the account to our SSN's - we finally were then able to login and get stuff rolling. I made the initial deposit to fund the account via mobile deposit with a check I wrote myself from our BofA account - that seemed to go smoothly. But when I called to ask about timing of receiving our debit cards they said, "Oh we see here that debit cards were never issued, that's strange." - and they had to manually order/request a debit card for both my wife and I for the account.

I told my wife I feel as though we somehow snuck through the cracks and got approved for a checking account that maybe we weren't supposed to be approved for - and that's why everything is having to be manually linked/ordered for us ... ? It just seems kinda uncertain for now, and I almost feel like their Loss Prevention team or something will just close the account once they realize the "mistake" of allowing us the Everyday Checking. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? How long do you think is a "safe" time to wait it out before we no longer have to worry about them catching it and closing the account? ... Or, do you think they actually did a reconsideration and decided to give us a chance anyways and we have nothing to worry about?

Unless you have a history of misusing checking accounts you might want to request a free Chexsystems report. Otherwise it just sounds like a Too Big to Fail banking experience. A new account review might happen in days or months, so if it's a concern you might want to open an alternate, there are plenty of options that are free, have bonuses, or pay interest.

WF is on my do not use list for multipe reasons.

Why do you need a local branch?  My Dw and our  biz,  bank with a bank who has their closest branch 2 hours away but has a great very strong on line banking platform.  They take phone calls til 7PM   We also have accounts at Navy FCU which has a real person 24 X7  I have a local account with $100 in in for ATM emergencies only
