My ch7 bk was discharged on 10.21.15. I have since opened two unsecured cards with Cap 1 and a car loan with Santander. Since I am starting over I am wanting to build a relationship with the proper bank for my future. I have a checking with Chase that I have had open for about 5 years. Pre bk I opened an account with US Bank as a back up becuase I burnt Golden One CU in my bk. I figured getting a new account would be difficult. Since getting the Cap 1 cards I have looked into Cap 1 360. I am looking to sit still and do nothing but build for at least the next 2 years. Who should I go with to build that relationship? I can't find a CU in my area that I can join. N. Cal.
Your checking account relationship doesn't make a difference with Chase in terms of credit, and I am not sure it does with C1, either, but the latter has been consistently voted as one of the best banks all around. I'm also a sucker for banks that don't try to milk fees out of you. The only thing with the 360 is that it is a hard pull on all 3 reports to open an account.
U.S. Bank is a shadow of what it was years ago. A friend of mine recently had her purse stolen, and she had debit cards with 3 different banks and U.S. Bank was the worst one to work with. She ended up closing her accounts with them due to the frustration of it all.
We have a high bank account balance with Bank of America. I put my savings in their interest banking. You have to maintain a balance of 10,000 and higher. With that said, because of it I was able to get Alaska Airlines Signsture and Bank Of America reward with them. Two cards I really wanted. My score was low due to no history after having to clean up my past. It took a long time to clean up and then there was a time where we had not use credit. So with Bank of America it helps when you have a relationship with them.
