basically sick of the fees at my brick and mortar bank, discover seems to have amazing benefits no fees for pretty much anything. almost seems to good to be true. does anyone here have discover checking? and how reliable are they as a primary bank?
Disco has never been my primary/only bank, but I've had checking and saving accounts and both were very good. Discover tends to make everything easy! Other than the benefit of being able to walk into a brick-and-mortar bank when needed, I think Disco is a good choice for your bank.
Given that Discover Bank only has 1 branch which is located in the state of Delaware it'd be best if you did choose to do business with them it should be as a secondary financial institution they do offer a pretty good checking product in its cash back checking account which you're limited to two coupled with a discover it i think it's a win win btw they do also offer Zelle which comes in handy as an instant transfer option between your accounts at other FI

Nobody likes internet banking more than I do. In fact, anything I can do on the internet, I do on the internet.
But I would hate not to also have a nearby financial institution on the ground. Perhaps there's a branch of a good credit union near you. Almost all credit unions have a fee-free checking account.

I understood this from maybe a decade ago but is there anything you need to go into a branch anymore for?
I guess some folks STILL only take checks, and if I can't get around that any other way I'll use a counter check to be fair, it's just rare... my last instance they caved and said they would take a wire transfer: here you go haha, no trip to the bank for me. Oddly the last time I tried to go to a bank, I think it was for notary service I got turned away with some pandemic comment "this is for customers only" umm...
I try hard not to need to walk into one anymore.

good but slow on ACH in & out if you don't mind waiting

I have always tried hard not to go into one. But sometimes I do need to drop by. Usually things involving cash or cash advances.
