The Financial Department at the hospital in North Carolina said I must be a North Carolina resident when I apply for Charity Care. So, now that I live out of state I cannot apply, regardless of my residency during the hospital treatment. I was told I have no other recourse.
Bummer.
There's always a recourse....
I would tell them that since they are going to be hard-nosed about it, I will simply sue the hospital for not complying with the Affordable Care Act by not presenting me with the Charity Care option at the time of service when it was clear that I had no insurance.
