2005 Adelphia Bill

Need a little advice. I am working on cleaning up my CR. I show a 2005 adelphia bill for $119 that now reports under Credit Protection Association (CPA). The last date it was reported is Sept 2005. It's due to fall off approximately Sept 2011. Should I DV CPA, or let sleeping dogs lie? Thanks!!!

Re: 2005 Adelphia Bill

If they have not reported in a while, if you DV them it might make them update your account.  Same holds true for a PFD.

Do you know what the SOL is for your state on this account? And are you trying to clean up your CRs for a major purchase, like a car or house, between now and September 2011?

Re: 2005 Adelphia Bill

I looked on the web and this is the information I found:

Open account: 3 years from the last payment or last charge for goods or services rendered on the account.
Written contracts (non-UCC): 5 years.
Sale of goods under the UCC: 4 years.
Virginia Judgments: 10 years, and renewable (extended) to 20 years.
Foreign judgments: 10 years.

I do not "plan" to make any large purchase, but I am working on repairing my credit. Unfortunately I am in the low 500s. My personal goal for the year is to work on improving my credit.

Re: 2005 Adelphia Bill

Guiness in my opinion has given you good advice. I would not do anything about this account.

This account is pretty old. Do you have more recent negatives reporting? Something else is holding down your score. You should concentrate on those first.
