TLDR Through an oversite on my part, I missed a mortgage payment. How screwed am I? Hi All I've had my user account here for years but have been quiet lately because I haven't had any troubles until now. I've owned my house for a bit over 21 years. In 2013 it was transferred to Freedom Mortgage, and it was never paid 30 days late. (maybe 4 or 5 late charges but not 30 days late) My entire credit report is 100% spotless, with no late payments at all. (until now) My utilization is a bit high, but nothing terrible or derogatory on my report. Sometime in Aug and then in Oct, I received an email from Freedom saying the website was being updated; I logged in, checked it out, did whatever I had to do, and made my payment. (or so I thought) This month I login and see I'm 30 days late; I freak out, make two payments, add an extra $500 for good measure, and call. I explain I have never been late, I've never asked for forbearance. I'm a good customer who just made a simple oversight and asked for pity. I even asked why didn't I receive an email or a quick phone call, text, or voicemail asking about the payment? It turns out the website doesn't even have that feature if you wanted it! The woman on the phone was less than enthused about helping in any way. Her supervisor was even less so, and I'm convinced, maybe a sadist. She made sure to inform me with a sparkle in her voice the worst possible update that could be made would be made with no question, and it could not be forgiven. Today, it was reported that my balance went up $500, and I'm not more than TWO payments late. My thoughts are my balance as of today should show a late payment AND the two payments with the additional principal I paid. Instead, I lost an aggregate of over 100 points across the three bureaus. Looking back to when I made that double payment, before calling, I reached the end of the payment flow and saw something strange. There was one more button to press to 'finalize' the payment I thought (from muscle memory and using the website for years) I had made on the previous screen. Perhaps part of this update, they sent an email about also added a new flow to the payment process, causing my September payment not to register, and here I am. Do I have any recourse? I've been religiously paying an extra $250 to $5000 per month extra on my mortgage for years, I could pay it off within a few more months if I worked at it, but now, our plans of buying a new house and refinancing my newly purchased Carvana car are out the window. Do I have any hope of getting this deleted?
