I have a CA that I am trying to get rid of on my report. The debt is a old and I am trying to negotiate with the original collection agency it was sold to. They said they cannot locate my account.
Now, I know this probably means they sold the debt to another agency, but shouldn't they have record of the account through the vine? Can I send them a letter to request them to report to the bureaus that they do not own the debt so it can be removed from my report?
I have received another letter from a different agency stating the original agency requested their help. What do you recommend I do? Do I coordinate with the latest agency for negotiating?
This is my only delinquent account. I hope to have this matter with the CA resolved ASAP. Thanks guys!
Update:
Received a letter in the mail yesterday.

Does the first sentence mean they have already deleted the tradeline on my reports? That's what it sounds like, but I know these guys can get tricky with their wordplay... Once I get this tradeline deleted - I will update on the success of this removal! Thanks for all your input guys.
What is the DOFD? Without knowing this, all I can advise is to dispute the account as it is an inaccurate reporting of a collection account that does not belong to the reporting CA.
A couple of points to consider; if the account is beyond the SOL and nearing the time for it to drop off your account then I would leave it alone. If you dispute the account and it comes back as valid, it would update the reporting and have more of an impact on your FICO score thus lowering your FICO score.
DOFD is Dec 2017. A bit time left on the ticker.

I would not consider Dec 2017 as "old". I would contact the original creditor and attempt to get them to recall the debt and negotiate with them. By the OC recalling the debt, that removes the collection authority of the CA and that can be disputed.

Yeah, thought it was older than that - when I double checked, I said the same thing.
I will try with the original creditor. Thanks.
Good Luck and let us know how things work out.
Is the debt collector Midland?
