I have a credit score of 483, and have horrible credit from making bad financial mistakes when I was younger. I am getting married soon and shortly after I would like to purchase a house. So I am now trying to build my credit up so finding a loan for a home won't be such a pain. I have my credit report from Transunion. My main question really is where do I begin, I am so lost when it comes to credit.
You need to get all 3 of your reports from annualcreditreport.com. One free each 12 months from each CRA.
Know the DoFD (date of first delinquency) of each account and your states SOL (statute of limitation). This is how long a creditor has to bring suit against you. EQ will show a DoFD, TU and EX have drop off dates. These are the dates a derogatory item will be excluded from your credit report.
Read the 3 links in my signature. There is a wealth of information in them and will help you understand the abbreviations used so abundantly on these forums.
Once you have your reports, go over them with a fine tooth comb. Look for obvious errors, like duplicated accounts or accounts that you know are not yours. If you know with no doubt these are not yours, you can dispute with the CRAs. Otherwise I don't suggest disputing yet.
You can post a few tradelines at a time to get help from members of the forums.
Credit rebuilding can be a long process but it is very rewarding at the same time. The first baddie you get resolved kind of sets the hook to get more and more resolved and see your score rise.
It will happen but with patience and persistence.
