Affirm agreed to remove a late but instead removed the entire account. They agreed that they'd remove the late payment because of a billing error but instead just removed the entire account from my CR. I'm scared that if I inform them to put the reporting back on my CR, that somehow they'd post the late payment back as well. Is this likely to happen? I'm wondering if the reason they removed the reporting altogether from my CR is that there is no "easy" way for them to just remove a late payment, therefore they would just remove the entire account from the CR along with all the positive payment history (up until the one late payment due to a billing error that is). I think my score would improve more if they simply just remove the late payment and keep the reporting on file on my CR. Instead, removing my entire account increased my score by only 2 points.
I'd consider this a blessing in disguise as Affirm accounts are most often classified, and scored as CFAs (consumer finance accounts) which are generally not good to have on your file... I'd recommend leaving it alone.
If there are other negatives / late payments still on your reports then it makes sense that you wouldn't get much of a FICO score boost. I agree with the above comment that it's probably best to just let this alone.
Honestly I was just leave a sleeping bear lie. Removing it from your credit altogether, meaning the account, might be kind of a setback temporarily but know where the setback of the late payment.
What all did you do to get it removed?
