Hello,
I need some advice.
I had a credit card with Amex on auto pay, but I changed my bank and also changed address/phone. They did send me an email but I didnt read it. I have my work and person emails together and too many and didnt realize it!).
Then to make matters worse, Amex decided to close my account because I was maxed out on some cards and I dont know if it's also due to the payment bouncing back.
I'm afraid I'm going on my 60 day late soon. I tried called Amex but they said the account is closed and in collection and now I have to deal with the collection company - Alltran. Alltran has not yet posted this account on my credit report, but it is showing a 30day late on Amex.
Should I make payment arrangements with the CA and ask to remove the 30 day late? Or that even possible?
Or should I just pay and live with the 30day late?
Any advice on how to best handle the situation is much appreciated.
Thanks!!!!!!!
Amex assigns delinquent debts to collection agencies so the collection wont show up on your report. I would contact the collection agency and make payment arrangements to bring your account current. You can then contact Amex for a goodwill removal on the 30 day late.
I've been in the same situation. Amex closed my account and sent it to Alltran for collections. However, I don't believe Amex sells its debt to Alltran, at least not right away. I think at first Amex just uses Alltran to collect on their behalf. Maybe they charge it off eventually and sell it after it's charged off, but it never got to that point, at least in my case. The reason I mention this is because Amex will still gladly take your money directly without having to go through Alltran. I paid off my balance over a few months on Amex's online payment center and avoided any interaction with Alltran altogether. In addition, paying Amex directly might get your score up faster since there's no delay in reporting the balance decrease to the credit bureaus. It won't stop Alltran from calling you daily, though, but you can always send a cease-and-desist letter to make them stop.

Amex doesnt sell their debt. You might call them up to see if they will reinstate your account after payment.
I've never heard any other reports of AMEX (or any lender for that matter) sending an account to collection as a result of a 30-day late. When was the last time you made a payment?

I don't think they necessarily sent it to collections but just having the collection company make the collection calls.

Might not've been cause of the 30-day late, but cause of the bounced payment.
