So this is probably a One Off situation but I know I was looking it up on these forums and thought I'd share if someone was ever in the same boat as me. Search Function on these boards is awesome...if you are curious about a topic, use it!
So I had a charge off Amex probably a decade ago, paid in full and got an Optima rebuilder card with them. Well I still was irresponsible with my credit and let the Optima Charge off as well back in 2015. Got serious about my debt last year and knew I wanted a future relationship with Amex so I paid in full back in August 2020 I think it was?
Well my account was still showing open, reporting positively and I was receiving letters about the terms of the Optima card. Odd thing about paying the charge off, like all of my negative history from the CO was removed from my report. This was a such a good thing, I didnt want to contact Amex in case they were like, hey, thanks for letting us know...lets go ahead and put all the CO and lates back on your report.
Today I got a bill from Amex for my old Optima with $0.00 balance and letting me know my annual fee was going to be due next month. Call Amex Customer Service and asked if the account was still open...woman said the account was still open, reporting positively and that the new card they were sending me had my original Member Since Date...think it was 09.
So I guess the short story is...I let my rebuilder Optima Charge Off and once I paid it off in full, 6 months later, I got my Optima back. So that is a possibility.
Congrats, that's definitely a win. Nurture this and they likely will eventually open up to other cards as well.
Thats an awesome deal right there. Congrats on keeping that Amex card open.
Great job on getting back on track and doing things the right way now. It's a plus that they removed the CO and kept the account open.
