Hi Team,
I had a medical bill that went to collections due to a clerical error (no one contacted me from the office before sending it to collections). I paid the bill, but not before the damage was done. It's literally the only black mark on my credit and dropped my score like 40+ points. I have contacted the doctor's office, and they are sympathetic to my situation, but they claim that there is nothing that they can do. They said that they talked to the collections company, but they told them that the only way I could get it removed was to contact the credit bureaus. Is there anything that I can tell or provide to the doctor's office that might help me get this removed? I just don't think that the person I am talking to knows the procedure.
Thanks,
Mike
You paid the collections or the doctors office?
I paid the collections company.
Ouch. The med provider may have taken payment and recalled the debt from the CA. But who is the collection agency you paid?
This is from how to remove a med collections from your report. You already missed the first 4 steps. So here's #5 :
"Google the HIPAA Process and contact its creator for help, this process cannot be discussed in any forum of myFico."
Is the collection appearing on all three bureaus? They seem to each have various options when disputing online. I can paste which options I chose to get my medical collection deleted. Will the medical provider's billing department or another department provide a letter/memo stating that it was an error?

Yup, I would try and get a letter from the docs office saying there was an error then send that to the reporting CA asking for deletion
