Bank of America cannot verify my identity, now what?

I just got off the phone with BOA.  I have an outstanding account on all 3 of my credit reports that originally was $67 in 2004 and now is $589. There is no collection agency assigned to it.  I called Bank of America to settle and PFD (with proper letter of course) and they cannot verify my identity.  I gave them my SSN, Name, DOB, but the address in their system is NOT my address nor ANY of my previous addresses

The man on the phone told me to visit a local branch with my drivers license and social security card so they could validate my identity.

Is there any way this can work to my advantage?  Seems pretty outrageous $67 can explode into almost $600.

If you have an EX report directly from EX, then look at the account. It should have an "address identification number".

Write that number down and then go look at the "personal information" section of your report and find the address with the same identification number.

This might help you determine what address they have.

Otherwise, as long as this is your account, I can't see how not having the right address would help you in anyway.

If you don't want to go into a branch, send them a certified letter requesting information relating to the account.

Re: Bank of America cannot verify my identity, now what?

A simular situation happened to an old co worker of mine. BofA pulled the "we can't verify your identity crap" with her. She went in with photo ID with her current address and her lease to proof that was in fact the current address. Two weeks later she gets a knock on the door and bamm she is served with court papers. You guessed it BofA was suing her.

Now I can't say this is what is going on in your case cause I have no way of knowing that but please keep your eyes open.

The suggestion to check your EX and match up the geographical Id number and address is a good idea.
