CC Reporting open but not.....

I have an old cap 1 card with a $29k credit line and no balance.  At some point it was closed ( not by me ) but still reports monthly as open, zero balance etc.  I get a statement once a year.  I periodically call asking for a card and am told that it's open but something like no new charges allowed.  Certainly helps me but just curious if anyone else has seen or heard of this ?

Sounds like a restricted account. I would ask them what you need to do to lift the restriction.

But don't I run the risk of them closing ?  I then lose an ' open ' card with a high cl ?

Either way you run the risk of them closing the account. I would at least find out what the requirements are to lift it.

It has been in this status for years.  If I want it to be a card to show as open with a zero balance and high cl, then no reason to poke.   Is this something that others have seen ?
