COLLECTION AGENCY REFUSES TO DELETE

Hey all! I hope y'all are doing well. So here's my situation: I've got a $209 collection from MRS BPO for original creditor Spectrum, the cable company. My goal is to negotiate a Pay for Delete, but MRS BPO said they don't do PFD. They said if I pay they'll update the account to paid, but it'll remain on my credit report for 7 years. It really pisses me off because I wasn't even aware I hadn't paid the balance as I had moved out of my apartment and thought I was current. Do you guys have any advice on how I can get it deleted? I was thinking calling and paying Spectrum directly, then disputing by saying that it's already paid.

Thanks in advance for any advice or insights you can share!

Your only shot would seem to be having Spectrum recall the debt. They might tell you they can't accept payment without them first agreeing to recall the debt from the CA. I'd try to get in touch with someone with the authority to do this at Spectrum and politely explain how you inadvertently got into this situation, as well as your desire to settle the matter with them directly.

Thank you! That's really good advice, I'll be calling them tomorrow and post an update.

Dont get your hopes up. Cell companies are the worst to deal with. Gotta stay on top of these companies. Especiall Verizon and AT&T. Good Luck!

Same happened to me with Verizon wireless when I switched to tmobile. Never got a final bill.  Or any bill.  2 years later BPO put me on my credit.  They don't delete. Has been with Verizon for almost 20 years.   Begged for a better cell phone package.   So it's on my credit.   What's laughable.  I was always on time off course that doesn't go on your credit.  But now weekly Verizon beggng for me to come back.  I don't think so.  BYE

Spectrum is a cable company, not a cell phone provider

I know OP did say it was for cable, but Spectrum does also offer cell service.
