Can You Request to Remove Old 30 Day Late Payments?

I have a few 30 day late payments from 2017, and was wondering if I could request to have them removed by the credit card company early?  I have had perfect payment history with them since, and wondered if they would consider removing some of my past late payments to increase my payment history percentage?

Is this even something that credit card companies do, or do I just have to continue to ride the wave until they age off naturally?

Yes, it's perfectly acceptable to ask for early exclusion of any adverse information (of which a 30 day late is, as defined by FCRA 605(a)(5) )on your credit reports that may be eligible (time wise). You have to ask the CRAs, not the credit card companies. It will be as per what their particular policies allow. TU 6 months, EX 3 months, EQ 30 days (someone will be along to correct me on these time lines if I'm mistaken)

Now, I've been successful with this, others have not, so... YEMV but, it costs you nothing to ask them to remove these items because they're "too old" to report. If they won't play ball, then don't worry about it... they're coming off this year anyway.

Best of luck!

Thank you for the above information. Smiley Happy  I've been spending the last several years rebuilding from what happened in 2017 (I was laid off a job, and it did a number on my credit!) so I'm looking forward to getting it 100% cleaned up.  These are the last/only negative items I have left.  I'm currently sitting at 678 Experian/680 EQ/687 TU, so I'm hoping the removal of the old payments, and continuing to pay off all CC's will finally get me over that 700 hump back into "Excellent" credit.

As mentioned above, there's no harm in asking for GW removal of the late payments.  However I don't know that you'll gain much, if any FICO points since most of the damage to your scores has likely been recovered in the last 6 years.

I cannot agree with the last post.  I had two 30 day lates removed last year and my FICO 8 scores went up by more than 30 points.  YMMV.  They were the final two negative marks on my report.
