Can target keep reporting late even after it's charged off AND sold to CA??

Hi all, so I as I continue on with my journey to turn my credit score around I've moved onto my with Target.  I had a store card with Target, and due to a serious health issues could no longer pay the bill....The account shows as a charge off on my CR, and I have been receiving letters from the CA who is also showing up on my CR.  I'm not able to start paying on it yet as I am working on paying down/off some other accounts, when that is done I can start paying on Target.  However, Target is reporting as a late payment every month on my report!!!! The last one to post was 2/24/10.  So although I am making some headway with other accounts, you can't see because Target is keeping my score down by adding new late payments.  Can they do this?  This doesn't seem fair since they don't own the account anymore, and it's being reflected on my report twice now. tia Smiley Sad

IMO, they can report like that if they owned the debt, but if the CA is reporting too, then someone isn't reporting correctly. If you have the $$$ to PIF if you had to or if SOL expired, then you can certainly send a letter to the CRA(s) asking them to remove the account that doesn't belong.

The OC is not supposed to continue reporting lates after it's been CO.  I'm having the same problem and with mulitple accts.  Working to get this corrected.  It's only showing lates after CO with EQ.  On TU and EX it either stopped reporting after the CO or kept reporting CO for a while then quit updating.  See this thread for some corrective steps...there's a dispute process:
