Hello all, I hope this is the right sub forum for this topic. I changed my full name (first, middle and surname) about a year ago and am now running into problems applying for credit. I only informed my creditors which had open accounts (which is one credit card and student loans) of the name change and that name is showing up as an aka under my old name (as it should).
However, I applied for a new credit card under my new name and new address (which is all the way across the country) as well applied for an apartment. The leasing agent said I had no credit history and Cap 1 is reviewing my account for fraud. I called the credit agencies and all three said a new file had been created under my new name and California address. Two agencies mailed me a copy and both inquiries show up.
I am only 24 so having a limited credit history would not impact me in the same way it would be detrimental to someone who is 35+ with a family. Also, it should be noted that I changed my name due to serious fraud activity under my old social.
Has anyone else had this problem and should I let it ride out or will thecredit bureaus play catch up?
