Hello all,
I create this post in hopes of advice as I have snooped non-stop in hopes to find a situation similar to mine.
I have been a card member with Citibank/Best Buy since 2014. Up to 2019 of April last year, I have had a flawless credit history with no late payments. At the end of 2018 I experienced some job issues and it kept me tight for most of the early part of 2019.
This resulted in me getting behind in payments with my Citibank/BB card and I could not make the minimum payment they were requesting to bring the account current. As I always do if a problem occurs, I called and spoke to a representative to see if there was a payment amount they would settle for to bring the account current and to also pay off the balance faster. We settled on $150 and the account was also closed. Looking back, I feel like this was my mistake as I never received anything in writing and I was also closing an account that was in fantastic standing. At this point, I just wanted to pay off everything and never be prone to using credit cards again.
I have made every $150 payment we agreed to (auto-pay) and was shocked to see that my account was being charged off and that I have had almost a year and a half of delinquent remarks made on my account. I thought the account was being dealt with and I would also be paying it off sooner than later with the agreed set amount.
To me, I feel like I have gotten duped. I can't even access my online account to review all statements, all documents, or anything. Calling customer service I have not been able to get to anyone.
i would love to settle this with Citibank directly, but also feel like they would not budge. With 5 years of prior outstanding payment history and making the payments agreed upon, I feel like there is reason to see I had a small hiccup, wanted to correct it, and there was a communication error on what was expected and what the payment plan would offer. However, I also feel like if I bring this concern up it will fall on deaf ears and there will be no reasoning.
Is there anyone that has had a similar experience to this? If I can eventually get in touch with Citibank, are my chances of getting this reversed for positive remarks high? Especially if I offer them payment of the supposed "past due amount" that is showing on my report? If not, is there any basis of this situation that could justify as a dispute?
Thanks to all that can help. At my wits end.
When you and the creditor agreed to the $150 per month payment amount and closure of the account, was it clearly stated that your continued paymebt of that amount would end any continued accrual of new delinquencies, or only that they would discontinue reporting of delinquency to the CRAs?
If they stated that they would discontinue reporting of delinquency status to the CRAs, that might be argued to be an amendmend of the terms of your account agreement.
However, what would they then be expected to report as the current status, since the account would remain delinquent until the entire deficiency was repaid, without makng a knowingly inaccurate reporting to the CRA?
The agreement, even though not perfected as a binding contract, seems vague.....
