Lots of people have said Asset Acceptance won't PFD but has anyone tried paying off a collection to them and then disputing it on your CR's?
@randaljon wrote:You can pay them off, then dispute later claiming you paid an invalid debt out of fear and raise all kind of heck to demand money back through Attorney General of your state and BBB complaints. Then you say you will settle the whole thing for deletion. I have heard this works well. Haven't had to use it yet.
Professional Debt Mediation agreed to PFD, sent payment, now waiting for them to receive it and delete.
What if they can show the debt is valid?
They usually can't anyways, and deleting the account would be cheaper for them than to fight back. Why should they bother once it's paid right?

I'd love to know more about this process. Can you offer anymore info on how to do this? Do you dispute via CRA or in writing?

Cant they just contact to OC to verify the debt?

And would you consider this approach ethical? I'm just curious.
From a BK years ago to:

"Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they've made a difference. The Marines don't have that problem".
Ethical? As ethical as banks taking bailouts. I am sure those banks are not punished with a bad credit rating for 7 to 10 years...
As ethical as collection agencies lying to consumers.
As ethical as creditors charging 29.99 percent to people desperate for credit.
Yeah sure, it's ethical. gimme a break!

Well you can use whatever excuse you want for doing the wrong thing but in the end it's still wrong. It doesn't matter what another person or a company or our governrment does that is wrong. You have to look yourself in the mirror each day and ask yourself if you've done the right thing in your heart.
I try to make decisions based on the things I learned in the Marine Corps-duty and honor among many other things.
Is what I'm doing an honorable thing? Would it make my wife and children proud of me? Would I advise my children to do what I'm contemplating?
I don't know if you have children but I hope you would not encourage or approve of them cheating or lying just because "everyone else is doing it".
Admiitedly I often fail in my efforts because I am a flawed human being but my goal is still to try and always do the right thing and not necessarily the easiest thing. Without honor what are we left with?
In the end though we all decide what is right or wrong and then have to live with it.
I had success this past week with American Collections Corporation out of Illinois and UCB out of Ohio

Well I don't recognize debt collections as valid debts, so I don't see anything unethical in fighting them back.
We all make mistakes, and the credit system is really geared against the consumer, so if you can live with a little fib here and there. Nothing wrong with it. But as a Marine you are used to following the rules and bowing to authority. I have always questioned the authority and I will break rules if I consider them unjust.

Starting Scores(Jan/2011): EQ 564 TU 538 EXP 576I had agreement with a debt collector one time. I sent the settlement, but for some reason USPS didn't deliver till after agreed upon date. USPS told me it would arrive in 2 days, took 5 days. They cashed the check then demanded the remaining balance because payment was not received on time even though I sent it priority mail. I had to fight them with BBB complaints to have them honor the settlement. That is how I learned about the "demand a refund or deletion" technique.
Stay honorable and defend those debt collectors!
