Collection Agency never contacted us

I just found a collection on my husband's credit report.  It is a debt that we know we owe and I will attempt to pay it when I get my inheritance in.  So I am not denying that we owe it.

However, the original debter AT&T Uverse never told us we were going to collections and the collection agency (CREDENCE RESOURCE MANAGE) never contacted us!  My husband's credit report states it was opened on Dec 23rd 2019 and that it was last reported on February 9th.  I check credit Karma all the time, I know this was not there in Dec or January!  I didn't check it the last 2 weeks due to personal things happening.  According to their score details, see what changed, it says between Feb 4th and Feb 20th a collections was added.

What should I do?  I believe they have 5 days to contact us after listing on a credit report?  Just wondering how to get this removed.  His score went down 11 points and it has been the same score for weeks!  This is only on Transunion

Thank you for any help

Sandra

Is is a medical debt?

Can you share the name of the collection agency so members can provide feedback?

Re: Collection Agency never contacted us

Have you checked your mail to make sure you never received a letter from AT&T stating they are attempting to collect a debt owed and if not paid by a certain date/time that they would send to collections?

Not sure there's much you can do to have it removed other than ask to do PFD.

Most will send a dunning notice and give you 30 days to dispute, but they really don't have to. Seeing it pop up a couple of months later with backdated info isn't unusual. It usually takes 1-2 cycles before the bureaus get it updated. Reach out to att and see if they'll recall the debt if you PIF. If they won't, contact the CA and ask for a PFD.
