Collection Deleted by 2/3 Bureuas

After disputing a collection account with all three bureaus, Trans Union and Equifax have both responded that the item will be deleted. Experian, however, responded that the item will remain on my credit report. I am very confused how Experian would come up with a different result than the other two bureaus who both responded very quickly to my disputes (Trans Union only took 1 day). Is the collection agency providing different information to the different bureaus? I also read that once an item is deleted from one report they are required to update all three, is this true?

Re: Collection Deleted by 2/3 Bureuas

Hi! Welcome to MyFICO Forums!

Generally speaking, there isnt a rule that says that a collection must be removed from all three if it is removed from one, and this site does not advocate for members to file disputes against accurate information contained in their report.   What was the reason for the dispute?  Was the item reporting inaccurately?

Since you are new to the forum you should definately check out the Credit Repair Discussion Guideline to get an idea of what information is allowed to be posted on this site.  You can also check out the following threads which may help you address some of the issues you have...

You will find a wealth of information here!

I am going to suggest that you start the journey by reading the following threads:

What Steps Do I Take?

That will give you a great place to start!

Also you want to opt out first before contacting these creditors... to opt out go to: www.optoutprescreen.com

Best of luck and if you use the search function to search for each of your creditors you can see how others have dealt with them successfully in the past.

Good luck!

Re: Collection Deleted by 2/3 Bureuas

I knew by the title alone, that it'd be EX..

Webhopper's right. If you have an account issue (dates/lates/incorrect info/etc) you're best to deal directly with the CA, as the CRAs more or less shorten the issue to a single code, not allowing for "additional information."

If it's right, and you're trying to knock it off...shame!!Smiley Mad

Re: Collection Deleted by 2/3 Bureuas

Thanks so much for the responses. The collection is for a medical debt that should have been charged through my insurance at the time. I have contacted the hospital, who said they would look into it, but after over a month with no response I decided to go ahead and dispute. When I got the speedy response from TU I figured that maybe they had actually realized the mistake on their end. I've been lurking here for over a year so I'm very familiar with the wealth of information avaiable and have successfully had several baddies removed since last January (mostly through GW), but couldn't find a consistent answer on this one. I am working on getting my first credit card but would like to clean up my report as much as possible before then to make sure I get the best rate possible. Thanks again for the responses!

You may want to contact the insurance provider that you  had at the time and ask them for any records of payment to that medical provider.

If they have the records, then you can definately use that information to file a direct dispute with the agency that is reporting to your credit.

Glad to see that you're now a poster instead of a lurker Smiley Very Happy

Re: Collection Deleted by 2/3 Bureuas

The entire situation is sketchy to say the least. When I went to the emergency room the woman at the desk told me to not put down my insurance information, which I found very odd, but with a second degree burn on my face at the time, I didn't ask too many questions. After several hours on the phone today I tracked down my old insurance information and have provided it to the company charging me for the doctor's fees (seperate from the ER fees that I have already paid). She told me that she will submit an insurance claim and have the account pulled back from collections. Should I give it some time and dispute with EX again or just hope that once it is pulled out of collection they will stop reporting?
