I have an old collections for a cable company from 2003 and the CA just updated this month. In 2006, and even though I defaulted on the old account, I was able to open a new account for cable services. It is still active and paid on time. I have called the OC twice and received 2 different answers.
Answer 1: I will need to contact the CA to PFD the account.
Answer 2: I can pay in full with the OC. The CSR said he made note on my account that when I PIF to notify CA to delete the account from my credit report.
This is the only collections left and I want to play my cards right to have it deleted from my report. Who should I settle the debt with the CA or the OC? If the OC, should I include in the letter that they contact the CA to have the account deleted? Or do the OCs normally notify the CA to delete the account once it's settled? Any advice is welcomed!
Thanks
Pay the OC. Just make sure it is applied to the OLD account number, not your current one.
If you are not currently looking for a mortgage or any credit, wait 45-60 days and see if the CA drops off your CR. If not send a DV to the CA.
I PIF to the OC today. I was told it may take up to 30 days for the collections to be removed. Should I call the CA and demand them to remove the account to expedite the process quicker? I am in the market for a house and in fact, I made an offer yesterday. I don't need their last derogatory update (June 2009) on my report as it is hurting my score.
If you DV before the OC pulls it back from the CA, wont the dispute just come back as verified?
Sometimes the waiting game is hard.
