I got a response to a GW email I sent to West Asset Management. Before this site, I paid a collection thinking that paying it would remove it from my credit report. After finding this site it was made apparent that a paid/unpaid collection are the same thing. I was told the only thing I could do would be to send a GW.
The woman I spoke to informed me that they were no longer handling the debt and it had been given to AT&T. She said they had been assigned the debt and it was never sold to them. She then said she could send a letter saying that they were no longer handling the debt. At this point I probably should have shut up. I told her I had already paid the debt to them and that I was confused. Once I told her this she asked what it said on my credit report and I said it was being shown as paid. She said that this was accurate and could not change what it said. I asked her if she could still send the letter saying that they were not handling the debt and she said no that she would send a letter saying that it was paid in full. We all know this won't help me much
I am wondering what my next course of action should be. Should I contact AT&T or is WAM the company I should continue GW'ing?
Is there any other course of action I can take besides continuing to GW either of them? i.e. dispute if they do not own the debt?
I would continue to send GW letters.
