Okay ... so I know Credit Karma gives a FAKO, but I signed up for it because it is free and I thought it would be a good indicator if there were any changes on my TU report. According to CK, my FAKO is 553. I usually go in daily to update it. There has not been a change since April 15th, so I doubt it is really updating given that I've made on time car payments and on time credit card payments since then.
Today, I received this alert from CK:
"Your account with Account information disputed by consumer, meets FCRA requirements has been listed as delinquent. Your payment status is listed as Collection/Chargeoff".
Like anyone making progress on fixing past credit problems, this was a huge shock to me. It was also very confusing. I have not received any dunning notices for anything new. In fact, I've tried to be very proactive in fixing old mistakes. I've managed to get a CA to agree to a PFD (that I've already sent in a payment for) and I sent in a letter to TU for a tax lien from 2003 that shows open, but was paid later that same year. There haven't been any other negative alerts from my ScoreWatch through MyFico. In fact, I recently got a 9 point bump in my score on 6/2!
I called TU about the alert I saw on CK. I specifically asked if there were any new collection accounts showing on my report. He verified the 2 I already know about (including the PFD that has not yet been deleted). He did not see anything new and offered to send a copy of my report to me.
So, I went into look at the CK alert again and noticed that there is an ad for a credit repair service directly below the alert with a link. When I clicked on the link, it brought me to Lexington Law. I know CK is heavy with ads and that is why it is free. So do you think the alert was a trick to get me to sign up for Lexington Law?
Yes I do think it is a set up. The samething just happened to me which led me to myfico to look at reviews about credit karma....
IMO, ignore the alerts and some of the reporting. It doesn't factor in all of my accounts. I also get phantom alerts for an inquiry. This inquiry is over a year old but it alerts me every other week saying it's brand new with a date about the same time of the alert.
