Credit One is deplorable.

So, about 2 weeks ago I got an offer from Credit One for a second card, even though I don't use my first one. I don't use the one I have because it has no grace period ( my other bottom feeder cards do.)  I have a $400 limit on that card. The new card they were offering me had a lower rate, lower af ($39) vs $99, $1,000 limit.

Anyhow,  I call Credit One and tell them I don't want another card. I'd consider keeping my current card with a product change. Basically I wanted lower or no annual fee. I don't even care about the limit. I have better cards with higher limits. She tells me they can't PC my existing account, so she said maybe we can increase CL.....I'm like whatever. Then she says they can't increase CL either, I'll get a letter in the mail telling me what I need to work on. I told her don't bother, I now have higher limit cards from other banks with considerably better terms. That's the truth ( I have NFCU, Discover, Amex), I tell her I no longer want this account, please close it. She asks me if I'm sure. Yeah, I'm sure, I know the AF was coming up last week. Sure enough I check my credit and it's still open with $8 balance ( was 0) . They bill AF in installments.

Not sure if I should pay it and keep fighting the close battle or not.

I understand the sentiment, but honestly if you're going to close it just pay the $8 and move on. At least that is my opinion.

I'm not worried about the $8 at all. My concern is that they won't close it and keep billing me $8. How do I force them to close it?

Well as soon as it posts, pay it then call and close and get the reps name. If it appears again then call and speak to a supervisor. If that doesn't work then I'd turn documentation over to CFPB   That is what I would do.  Or some variation of the above steps.

Ok , I'll do that. Somehow I had a feeling they would give me a hard time.

Re: Credit One is deplorable.

Just make sure that you document everything. They are probably going to record the call for training purposes so make that beneficial to both sides. Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: Credit One is deplorable.

If you're tired of them call in and demand they close it again and make them waive the fee as the card was supposed to be closed prior to that.

I am going to demand it, I just don't want it to go " past due " in the interim and kill my progress.

Re: Credit One is deplorable.

Hi @Nikita2008 ,

Sorry to hear about your experience with Credit One. My experience with closing Credit One was quite simple. I had called in two times previously attempting to have them waive the AF which was $39 billed annually for my card. No dice, so with a few weeks before the AF became due I called a 3rd time to finally close the account. They again refused to waive the fee and even tried to get me to wait until after the AF posted to call in and have it reimbursed.

What happened for me was they transferred me over to retention and verified I wanted to close the account, they confirmed it was closed on the call and then within 7 days I received an email confirming the account closure. Also if you use their mobile app you should see $0.00 out of the credit limit available, again it took about 7 days for the email and to update on the app.  I did continuously check the app for a few months after closure because Credit One is known for sneaking fees on.

My questions - did you call in and close the account prior to the AF monthly billing date? What was the timespan between the call for account closure and the fee posting, was it in fact two weeks?

Keep us updated!

Re: Credit One is deplorable.

I called on the 12 th so 13 days. I ever used the app so I never thought about that. I honestly.didn't use the card much either. Used it the first 2 or 3 months I had it and that's it. It took me a few months to pay off. And have not used since.
