Hello,
This is my first post after reading various posts on here through the years.
i was in the process of paying someone to fix my credit, however i believe i can do it myself and save money.
i have a CH 7 BK that will be 10 years old in June (filing date) and hopefully it falls off by then. But my main concern are some collections and charge offs that I'm trying to remove in the meantime. My goal is to have this cleaned up with the BK off by end of year to purchase a new car and to keep my credit permanently in good status (clean profile and high score).
Can anyone help me with how to get rid of collections and charge offs? I know it's my problem and I'm not trying to do it illegally but rather how can I take care of the balances without somehow having the bad remarks remain on my credit?
example: I pay off a collections/charge offs and it still stays on there or worse they somehow show I didn't pay anything
Assuming these occurred after your BK. Some collection companies will offer pay for delete, some won't. If you want to give more detail as to who the collection agencies are, members here might be able to at least tell you who is PFD friendly, or not.
As for the COs, it's very highly unlikely you'll get them removed before the 7 years is up based on the DOFD (date of first default) that led to the Charge Off with the original lender. But, once the accounts are paid/settled to zero, they must report a zero balance and they will also stop reporting them monthly.
If they haven't been reporting monthly (gone dormant) I'd strongly caution against the tactic of trying to dispute them since what most often happens is they come back confirmed, and update to a more recent status... which will further ding your scores.
You could probalbly get an EE on TU for the BK7 if June is the fall-off date. As mentioned above, the rest of your concerns depends on when the Charge Off occured.
