DYI settle judgement

Hi,

I have a judgment $3187 from 6 years ago that I need to pay prior to my home purchase (March 2009)

Should I  try to settle this judgement myself

or should I contact an attorney to settle it. My friend's husband is an attorney and I think he would be wiling to help me out.

My thoughts are that an attorney might be better at negotiating  and would know what paperwork needs to be filed to resolve this.

Re: DYI settle judgement

What do you mean "settle"?

Do you mean negotiate a payment for less than full amount?

It is usually harder to do this on a judgment, as a judge has already ruled that you have to pay the full amount, however not unheard of.

If you are confident, you can do so yourself.

Re: DIY settle judgement

what I mean by "settle" ...

The judgment is for $3187 and that was from a few years ago

I'm afraid that now they have added on all kinds of crazy interest and fees.

I only have enough to pay the amount owed  and I would like to not paying anything on top of that amount

If the creditor doesn't accept my offer then I won't be able to buy a house and I will probably never pay the judgement.

Re: DIY settle judgement

Read your court papers, it should state exactly what can be added once the judgment is awarded, if anything.
