Dad's Public Record on My Credit Report!!

Hi All,

I just pulled my Equifax and my TU and realized that on my EQ I have a public record for a judgement in the amount of $2778!  I did a bit of research and it is actually against my Dad (we are a Jr/Sr and I have had to clean up a lot of credit woes on my reports because of this).  He is aware of the situation and is contacting the attorney who handled the case back in Dec. of 2006.

My questions are these:

1.  How should I handle the blemish on my reports?

2.  How can I get this removed and how long will it take?

3.  How much can I expect my score to increase once I get this removed?

Thanks so much!

1) I'd dispute as "not mine" on my CR.

2) If you dispute they have 30 days to "investigate". They may or may not verify/delete. If they verify and don't delete then you'll have to send a MOV.

3) Without knowing your other items, it's hard to say how much of a score increase. But public records are a major baddie, so...........

Now what you might do is dispute via fax or snail mail and send a copy of the judgement, highlighting your dad's information and ss#, the account #, etc and explain that it is your dad's not yours.

Now someone else may have better advice. I have never dealt with judgements, so have no experience there.

Re: Dad's Public Record on My Credit Report!!

I had the same exact problem, twice! I'm the jr and my dad had 2 different judgements. I disputed as not mine. i did this online, and it left me with 100 characters or so to add a note... i said "This is not mine; its my fathers. He is so and so SR and I am JR. Please remove" so far it was deleted off of transunion, equifax, and now im waiting on experian. I didn't fax anything, but before you try faxing/snail mailing it, see how the dispute goes. It can take up to 45 days to show I believe.

Just wanted to update everyone!

I just rec'd notice in the mail yesterday that the judgement has been removed from my credit report!  Thank God!!!  I can't wait to re-pull my scores and see where I stand now!  My wife, bless her heart, stayed on top of everything and took care of all of the paperwork and got the judgement removed from my credit file!
