Hello all,
just received a notification from the firm that held our previous mortgage that they had a data breach and personal information such SSN, DOB, address, etc was accessed.
They are offering identity protection by Cyberscout through Identity Force, which is a TransUnion company. In addition, a single bureau credit monitoring, report and score services.
I do currently have Experian Premium.
In the letter they also suggest placing a Fraud Alert or Security Freeze with the credit agencies.
I would like to know what is the safe protocol to follow in this situations. Please keep in mind that we are also shopping for a house and may need to apply for a mortgage in the near future.
Thank you!

freeze your credit with TU/Exp/EQ right now:

https://www.transunion.com/credit-freeze

fraud alerts are annoying, without any active attempts at ID theft, I'm not sure if I would go THAT far, but perhaps it's reccomended, I'll leave it to others to speak to it.
but freeze your credit at the very least right now, when you go to apply for anything, it's 5-10 minutes to unfreeze them or request a thaw (temporary unfreeze)
My wife got notice from Mr. Cooper, too. We froze all our reports that second. Since we have monitoring services already, we opted not to take the offer.
